QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
QWAK,You may have noticed that I have not posted the last day or so, well my sattalight uplink dish was the problem and I have FIXED it---- with a 12 gage shot gun and OO BUCK! HE HE HE
NOT realy in to violence BUT when I can't post or read posts and check the GOLD and SILVER prices I DO tend to get a bit frustrated!:bawling: I had it instaled in January and it worked real good but the last fiew days it started acting up and yesterday STOPED all together! I called the company and ended up on hold for about 45 min. then found myself talking to a lady in INDIA who I could bairly understand :censored: and as it turned out the problem was POOR SIGNAL STRENTH and the cause was the WALNUT TREE! Now that spring has sprung and the trees are growing new leaves the DISH could not see the sattilight! She gave me the phone number of the local installer to call and relocate my dish for proper preformance. One problem, she gave me his FAX NUMBER!! I called the number and YOU know what I got!:puke: I tried calling back but after 1/2 hour gave up. I decided to try fixing the problem my self ---MY WAY!:wavey: Got out my 22 and about 50 shots later had trimed several small branches. STILL poor signal! OH WELL time for a BIGER BANG! The 12 gage pump with OO BUCK HE HE HE About 15 shots later and two large 4" branches and a slightly sore sholder and the DUCK is back on line! :elefant: That is how I fixed my sattilite dish with a 12 gage shot gun! :haha: ROTFL! the DUCK |

It occured to me that back in basic when we did the NIGHT infiltration course with LIVE FIRE that the M60s had all the trees trimed off like a LAWN so it seemed a logical and REASONABLE if not conventional way to do some TREE TRIMING!:D I probably saved my self the cost of a service call TOO and today that is probably about $50.00 to $100.00 which will buy a lot of 12 gage OO buck shells!:yippee: It worked very well actualy, but I dbout any one will be inviting me over to HELP TRIM their CHRISTMAS TREE! :cheerful:  :wavey: HE HE HE the DUCK |

Re: QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
Duck,
I have been considering 'upgrading' to that sat uplink. Which company are you using? If Hughes (DirecTv) how large is the dish? And does it REQUIRE a phone connection to work properly? IE do you have BOTH uplink AND downlink via Sat or just downlink with uplink via phone lines? I have been considering this for a while now. The costs are a bit higher than what we pay, BUT being independent from the local phone company is greatly appealing at this point. Finally, you KNOW you are going to have keep trimming that tree until you either cut it down or move the dish. You do know that, right? Especially where THE DUCK lives. BTW, are you ANYWHERE near Eugene and the Oregon DUCKS??? QWACK!!:clap2: |

QWAK,Wallew,I now have both Huges for TV and my puter and am fairly happy with both but agree that the cost is higher than I believe nessary. I also plan to go OFF the GRID and the Sat computor link will allow me to have both my computor and it can also be used for phone so I see it as worth the cost.:cheerful: As for triming the trees BLACK WALNUT trees grow very slow and are almost like growing GOLD! I haited having to shoot up one of mine:bawling: but last year the wind tore up 3 a whole lot worse. One could say my atack was a SURGICAL STRIKE! I live in North wast Arkansas but concider my self a DUCK of the WORLD! I selected this place for a variety of reasons one being Edgar Casey said it would be a "SAFTY ZONE" OREGON he said will go UNDER WATER and even for a DUCK that could shure mess up a NEST!:wavey: I don't VOTE never have likely never will as I don't like geting cought up in other peoples FOOLISHNESS ---- I'm an INDEPENDENT DUCK! LOL:getdown: I do things MY WAY after concidering all the posabilities and evaluating posable reprecusions,I find I make fiewer mistakes that way and to others it may look or seem SLOW, in the long run NOT having to go back as often to corect mistakes turns out to be FASTER! It is NOT the FASTIST GUN that wins, it is the more accurate SHOT that WINS!:cheerful: GOOD LUCK!! the DUCK  |

I too am an independent DUCK! You are also correct with it's not how fast you are, but how accurate you are. Unless you are firing either full auto OR say 105 mm howitzer. THEN CLOSE COUNTS, if you know what I mean. wallew |
Re: QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
I also have satellite internet... Direcway/Hughesnet. It's two way, no phone line needed except for at setup. Speeds for me have averaged about 200K, depending on the time of year, cloud cover, moon phase, jet stream, arcadian cycle, cicada cycle, humidity, and how I hold my mouth while clicking a link. Cost is somewhere around 70.00 a month (I could tell ya later tonight) but it was 60 or so FRN's higher for the first year- paying for their dish and modem, ect.
Sometimes, in winter, (no leaves on trees) I can get 300K. Most times, it's closer to 200. Works better than dial up, and it's our only option other than dialup, so I try to control my frustration when the clouds and rain come, and the signal drops. As for the dish, it's an oblong/oval shape, 3 feet or so. Captures TV and 'Net signals. DUCK- when I started reading your story, my first thought was "I wonder what part of the country he's in- I bet leaves are growing and blockin' his signal." Sounds like the PERFECT way to fix the problem- ya get the net back, and got to burn some ammo while accomplishing it! Wish there was a way to do some of MY work like that! |
Re: QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
HAS ANYONE here gone to the K-Band dish for internet? That's the large eight foot dish. BUT it is not messed up with weather. Yes you should have direct line of sight.
I'm in the process of moving my dishes from the north side of my house to the south side up under the eaves. That way during the winter, I don't have to brush the snow off of them to continue to get a good signal. I'm running new 2200 mhz cable that was made for satellite/digital signals. And yes it IS frustrating to have the signal drop out when you get severe weather. Here in Colorado that means really heavy electrical storms. OR a blinding snowstorm. Other than that we get excellent signal. |
Re: QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
QWAK,Wellew,Ware I am located the first fiew years I could not even get a phone then it was a 4 person party line! The phone company instaled a packet spliter so same line but others could not listen in and phone company could call it a PRIVET LINE and charge a higher price! When I got a computer in 99 the best conection speed was 24.6K less than 1/2 of a 56K modum it never got better. With the sat. dish it is comparable to cable just slightly slower. A difference of night and day from what I had! TheDW7000 cost me $600.00 which I opted for monthly payments (so I could buy more SILVER sooner LOL) after it is payed off it will cost $60.00 a Mo. or about $2.00 a day.
As for being FAST or ACCURATE, in 71 and 72 I was working on classified wepons systems in NAM that today are whay you take for granted as WEATHER DOPLER RADAR. It had an old prototype computor tied in to the doplar radar and I could HUNT PEOPLE 12 clicks out and drop a 105 round with in about 3 meters of a target. It was like shooting FISH in a barrel and I could and DID bring down HELL FIRE on them! It bothered me a lot and is why I am a PTSD VET now and why I did not want any thing to do with computors, they make KILLING too easy and impersonal. I had 35 confermed KILLS in one night alone in 72! Today a person must have a computor and so in 99 I finely got one so I could traid stock from the DUCK NEST. Knowing what power computors had and could do in 72 and how much MORE today scares the HELL out of me BUT like all TOOLS guns included, it is the person using the tool that makes the diference. In the wrong hands a hammer can kill or it could help BUILD a home. For the most part I rarely have the DREAMS any more but still feel better out in NATURE than in a city, rattle snakes and bears etc. don't scare me, it is PEOPLE who I have problems dealing with! Feed a hungry dog and it will NEVER bite you but you can't say the same for people! Have a good one! the DUCK |

QWAK,They had thoes things on the GUN SHIPS and GUN TRUCKS in NAM! They can definitly TRIM a HEDGE but cost a bunch to operate!
Just for the HELL of it I would some times call in a FIRE MISSION and at night with every 7th round a tracer it was like watching a constent RED flame and the ROAR of some kind of DRAGON! I know I waisted several MILLION in ammunition but figured it was better than giving them REAL TARGETS that were PEOPLE!:applause_ the DUCK |

Re: QWAK,How to FIX a sattilight dish ---with a 12 gage PUMP shotgun!
Actually I had a friend who was a forrestry major, he had a breif stint with Weyerhaeuser, and said that some of the "tree specialists" would actually carry .22's with scopes so they could shoot off high branches for study. I found it odd, but thats how he said they did it. Good Job!
